Halloween Night

Or evening, as the case may be. Lexington has a city ordinance that allows trick-or-treating only from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Perhaps when my kids get older I will chafe at the limited Halloween framework, but for now, I rejoice! I don't have to open the door any more tonight! And my kids have been safely tucked away in bed since 7:30 without having missed out. Yeah for limitations!

Oh yeah, and there's Lutece making sure her hat sticks up just so.

Lutece is Dorrie the Little Witch (i.e., books by Patricia Coombs). I know the dress isn't much to look at, but it IS as accurate as I could make it. Lu was desperate to be something scary. You know, something Halloween-y. So we came up with this. Note the large pockets and the mismatched socks in the picture below.

Phoenix was NOT happy to be anything for Halloween. He kept crying "Not the bat wings! Not the bat wings!" We insisted that he had to have the bat wings on if he wanted candy. Such bad parents, I know. For those of you who saw Lu's costume last year, you'll know how original this is. But, hey, we recycle in our family.

He DID eventually get into the spirit of things. Duh. There was candy involved.

Dorrie the Little *Dancing* Witch

Here is a head-to-toe visual of Lutece's costume that we took before her dance class last night. All the girls wore costumes with their ballet shoes and danced up a storm. I wish I had a picture of THAT. As you can well imagine, Lutece was a little black splotch in the midst of 15 pastel princesses. She didn't seem to mind at all.

Sneaky Lu.

Just couldn't resist this one of Lu in her mismatched tights, er, socks. Plie in first position.

Halloween Fever

Lu has it. Grandma DuBravac fueled the fire by giving the kids new Halloween shirts, crocheting and beading the Halloween socks pictured above, and even making the lovely Halloween bow that Lu is wearing, but that you can't see in this picture (sorry!). Luckily, we have had various Halloween-related events at which to show off said Halloween attire. Here she's headed to her first Halloween party of the season at our friends the Birds (it was a rockin' good par-tay).

The Great Pumpkin Patch

Ahhhhhhh. Finally. New pictures. Well, actually, old pictures . . . but new to you. We've had a miserable week and a half of sickness, crying, whining, and general malaise. And don't even get me started on the attic room remodel. Woe is us. It's good for me to look at this picture of Phx and remember the kinder boy, pre-illness. Ahh, the calming influence of pumpkins.

The hayride back from the pumpkin patch. Phx is eying his booty.

Hmm. This makes a nice seat.

In the "Corn Maze." Oo-we-oo. Don't worry, I know you're wondering, but nothing scary happened.

Random Shots

This is why we don't watch a lot of TV. Nothing else exists for Phoenix when a DVD is on. Riveted he is.

I caught Lutece playing school during quiet time the other day and had to get a shot.

Caught!

Pretending to sleep on the stairs. I don't know why. Just because you can. Aren't brothers and sisters great?

Apple Season

I know. It looks more like pumpkin season. And it is that too. But the purported goal of our outing was apple picking . . . again. There just happened to be lots and lots of pumpkins at the farm (a different one than the last time).

See. There were apples too. We took home another big bag and had apple slices dipped in caramel for Family Home Evening tonight. So that makes 2 apple crisps, 1 apple pie, and countless apple slices. More! More! We can still eat MORE!

The natural picture is above. Here is the unnatural one.

And flowers. Did I mention the flowers? We try to stay away from them because Phx has an overwhelming urge to maim and destroy whenever we are close to some. He opens his arms wide and then Wham! WHAM, WHAM, WHAM! Beat those flowers into submission boy.

Here's Lutece saying, "Get a hold of yourself buddy. Leave the poor flowers alone." Ok, maybe she just said, "No, no Phoenix. Don't hit the flowers. Be gentle." Probably that.
